Out of the First Rays

20 years on and Out Of The First Rays is still as powerful today. As the band rip straight into "Head On" it's clear that Josiah wanted to take heavy rock back to it's opiate drenched roots. Psychedelic lyrics sung with soul and the heavy as fuck grooves laid down across this release owe a debt to Black Sabbath and Monster Magnet. "Malpaso" quickly became the bands signature track (featuring on film soundtracks and TV shows) with its pulsating riffs and trippy middle section and "Spacequake" makes you start to think there must be something in the midlands water supply, as Bethancourt echoes Ozzy with "come take my hand my child" and the Iommi styled guitar hooks kick you straight in the gut. "Sweet Smoke" kicks off side B with its Cactus meets Grand Funk early 70's rock vibes. The sonic interplay between the power trio, back the vocals up for this anthem to a burning earth - "Let the flames just take you higher". The 10 minute closer "Black Maria" with its psychedelic twin vocals and one of the heaviest riffs you'll hear this side of dead, gives way to uptempo bass grooves and a wah drenched lead break. Take another sip of the electric kool-aid baby, before we "slide down the cosmos" and fall into the big black sleep.

Acid’s Trip has done it again - high energy rock’n’roll with string-bending licks, a touch of soul and a blazing organic beat.This best describes the Gothenburg-based quartet that has taken the timeless sound of past decades to a whole new level. The album "Strings of Soul" was recorded during the late summer of 2020 by the band themselves for that hard rock feel and the production was mixed and mastered by genius sound engineer Ola Ersfjord (Honeymoon Disease, Tribulation, Dead Lord etc.). These Pioneers of Weed Metal would like to present “WEEDSCONSIN” to the universe. An album written by the three long standing original members of Bongzilla - Muleboy (bass, vocals), Spanky (guitar), and Magma (drums). Recorded and mixed by the late John Hopkins at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rock Island, Illinois in October 2020. The six brand new tracks will blow your mind! In a single instant you are contaminated by the classic Weed-Infected sounds the band is known for, while also finding new elements mixed into the bowl. In the unique piece that is Weedsconsin, Bongzilla delivers heavy doses of Crushing Stoner Doom and Psychedelic Space Rock that sets it apart from earlier material. (That’s why HPS Records is the perfect label to release this stuff). This record travels down a path of heavy riffs, mind-expanding jams, sonic tones, and stomping beats in the band's first release as a thunderous three piece, with Muleboy moving from guitar to bass. Approaching these songs as a three piece has created more space musically and allowed the band to showcase their musicianship in a different way. It results in a sound that is very heavy, along the lines of Gateway tone-wise, but sonically more clear. The album is mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago, Illinois, and Eli Quinn (Madison, Wisconsin) is the artist behind the astounding new cover art. Weedsconsin is dedicated to the memory of John Hopkins.

"From The Graveyard" is the second full length of the Occult Doom band "1782". In this album there is a leap in quality as the production is much better than the previous releases.
Eight tracks and 43 minutes of pure dark Doom, with slow and powerful riffs, and heavy and massive drumming.

After the recording of "Doom Sessions Vol.2", the band immediately enters the studio and records the heaviest tracks they have done so far, and they have done it while maintaining that catchy state they have always had. Here too there are featurings, Nico Sechi on organ (Hammond in "1782" and "Celestial Voices" in the debut album) and Alfredo Carboni's Synth.

As in the eponymous debut album, the artwork was done by the mighty SSCVLT.
"From The Graveyard" was recorded, mixed and mastered in November 2020 by Alfredo Carboni at "RKS Studios" in Ossi, Sardinia (Italy).

"Caravan" is the band's upcoming third full-length album. It is the direct successor to last year's "Under Acid Hoof" and the fourth release of the band with Heavy Psych Sounds Records. It was conceived, recorded and produced during a state of total lockdown due to Covid-19, therefore it greatly reflects our mood during these dark times. It is a heavy, sublime and pitch black journey into the vast unknown. Like all of our previous works, "Caravan" was recorded, mixed and mastered with Dionysis Dimitrakos of Descent Studio in Athens, while drums were recorded at Ignite Studio. The artwork was once again crafted by Branca Studio. It is a witchy album for witchy ears, a heavy opus that has emerged straight from the deepest abyss.

Once again the father and son duo on guitars offer the listener a horde of crushing, fuzzy, Iommi riffs while the mammoth bass tears down everything in its path with its acid hooves. Its drums are thundering unearthly beats of harrowing doom while its mesmerizing vocals will bewitch you with their words of woe. Heavier and more diverse than its predecessor, "Caravan" is here to tear you down with its acid tusks. Prepare to be doomed!!!

Vultures is an EP of the swedish stoner band Dozer. Recorded in 2004-2005 at Rockhouse Studios in Borlänge, these six tracks were used as pre-production demos for what would later become the fourth Dozer album, 2005’s Through the Eyes of Heathens.

Back in December of 2010, I went into a house in Joshua Tree California to record another solo record.
About 4 days into the sessions, I decided to abandon the 8 songs I was working on, told my long time friend and engineer, Tony Mason, to start rolling tape and I proceeded to play drums in my natural improv style. After multiple drum track performances were captured, I then started layering guitars, bass and percussion in the same improvisational spirit. I essentially decided to "jam" by myself for the rest of my scheduled sessions. When the recording session had finally come to an end, I put the 8 unfinished tracks on the "shelf" as well as my "solo jam session" tracks. I was much more content with the "jam" tracks as it was a creative release that was needed at that time.

I decided to call the collective tracks, Jacoozzi. At the time, it reminded me of the feeling of my first solo recording sessions for my first solo release, Jalamanta.... only more "free". At that time in 2010, I had no formal plans to release any of the music from those sessions....Jacoozzi included.

The results sometimes meander, which probably isn't of much consequence if this brand of metal is your bag, since this is what you'd expect in this perception-expanding context. What matters more than tightly structured songs are riffs and atmosphere, and both of those are present in abundance.

To the Center was released in 1999 on Sub Pop. The album has much more of a progressive/psychedelic sound to it than most of the band's other albums. Produced by Jack Endino & Nebula. Engineered by Jack Endino and ercorded at Hanzsek Audio, Seattle, April 1999.

The Heavy Psych Sounds To the Center reissue will be enriched by new incredible bonus/extra songs. The album will be released on February 16th 2018. Presale starts on October 13th.

A longtime dream has been to capture the YAWNING MAN performing in the very environment that so inspired their music. The opportunity arose in 2020 from the challenges artists and musicians faced during the Covid 19 Pandemic, social distancing forcing artists to creatively adapt to alternatives to express themselves musically and visually.

Yawning Man ‘s answer to this calling is “Live at Giant Rock”. This cinematic concert experience is intimately and beautifully captured by videographer Sam Grant in the environment that inspires Yawning Man’s spacious, expansive and cinematic music.

Filmed live in the early morning hours of May 18th, 2020 in the visually stunning and mysterious landscape of Giant Rock. In the spirit of Pink Floyd’s “Live at Pompeii” the performance is shot on location with no audience, just the band performing their instrumental meditations in the rugged beauty of the Mojave Desert.

Giant Rock in Landers California has attracted Native American Nomads, Scientists, UFO Researchers, and travelers from all over the world, drawn by its magnetic spiritual energy. The bands outdoor performances are legendary.... this film is the first artfully composed representation of that experience. Yawning Man’s music has found a most fitting venue.

The sound once again has this mellow and psychedelic attitude, with pinches of space rock and a matrix of desert sound, but you can also hear some progressive passages, and old school hard rock riffing here and there.

The Ep has a length of 25 minutes and is composed of 3 songs. One is a long suite of 13 minutes, all songs mixed and mastered by Tony Reed. The album once again features the cover art of the visionary Max Loeffler.

"...FROM THE EARTH TO THE SKY AND BACK" is the perfect soundtrack for a mind travel or a real journey on a hot hot summertime day.
Acoustic and electric guitars, percussion, banjo and pedal steel mixed with mellow vocals that let you dream away.

This is the band’s sophomore album and is composed of 14 songs. The first part of the album is inspired by a classic country attitude mixed with a spaghetti western sound. The rest of the album presents different moments, while conjuring up atmospheres reminiscent of Santana, The Eagles, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Spirit, Captain Beyond and recent Motorpsycho, we can simply file the genere under : Acoustic, Melodic, Psychedelic Folk.

The first album "Walking into the Forest" has been a surprise success while selling out in 1 year and recieving the attention of many devoted followers who are waiting impatiently for the second chapter.
Compared to the first album "...FROM THE EARTH TO THE SKY AND BACK" has improved the production, there are more songs arranged with drums and the the album has been mixed and mastered by Shane Trimble.

The fantastic artwork who really match with the album sound is made by Maarten Donders.

Walking Into The Forest [Repress]

After the amazing success of this debut, we decided to reissue the release with a cover restyling, new coloured versions and 2 brand new bonus tracks !!!

Gabriele Fiori -- already frontman of Rome-based outfits Black Rainbows and Killer Boogie and a key figure in Europe’s heavy underground as the head of the Heavy Psych Sounds label and booking agency -- was not exactly lacking for things to do. And yet, a couple years back, The Pilgrim started to nebulously take shape as an idea for a solo-project, something different than the hard-driving psychedelia and garage heavy rock for which he’d already been so revered.

It wasn’t until Jan. 2018 that he really got to putting songs together, but the end result on Walking into the Forestis a space-folk release with a personality unto itself. Songs like opener “Peace of Mind” evoke some of Fiori’s more rocking side, while “Sunset in the Desert” feels like an ode to the acoustic album Kyuss never made, and side B, which starts with the Hawkwind cover “Brainstorm” and ends with the moody strum of “Suite #2” -- originally from Void Generator’s 2004 debut EP; when Fiori was in the band -- hones a cosmic drift and textures that nonetheless remain accessible and organic thanks to their acoustic foundation.

“The main point in common with Black Rainbows is the diversity of the songs,” Fiori explains. “You have mind-dreams like ‘Dragonfly’ or ‘Sailor,’ or the more folk rock ‘Peace of Mind,’ passing through space with ‘The Time You Wait’ and the melodic-melancholic ‘When I Call Your Name.’”

In completing the arrangements, Fiori turned to Black Rainbows drummer Filippo Ragazzoni, and as he says, “Songs came out so spontaneously and easy. I always played acoustic guitar and wanted to push further on this path. The songwriting, rehearsing and recording approach was so different from usual Rainbows or Boogie style, both to me and Filippo for drums, because all the instruments needed to be played smoothly, softly.”

The fantastic and dreamy artwork has been accomplished by Marteen Donders The recordings has been realized in Rome at Nero Studio on a fantastic 70's SSL mixing console during the fall 2018 The Mix and the mastering been doon at JD Studio by Pino Santamaria, same engineer who mixed several Black Rainbows albums

With Walking into the Forest, Fiori evokes a sound that is both classic and fresh, melodically rich and creatively constructed. It is a new outlet for Fiori that demands spiritual as well as auditory engagement, and an all-things-permissible sonic context that one can only hope The Pilgrim continues to explore.

Prior to the formation of Queens of the Stone Age, bassist/singer Nick Oliveri recorded some originals with ex-Kyuss bandmates Josh Homme (guitar) and Brant Bjork (drums), plus Karma to Burn's Rob (drums) and others. But once recording was completed, Oliveri decided to shelve the tapes; it wasn't until several years later (well after Queens of the Stone Age began to establish themselves) that the bassist decided to release the songs on a friend's indie label, Southern Lord Records.

Going by the name Mondo Generator, 11 tracks were compiled for the 2000 release Cocaine Rodeo. The majority of the songs are much more raw and hardcore/punk-based than Oliveri's output with QOTSA, as evidenced by such tracks as "Shawnette," "Uncle Tommy," "Unless I Can Kill," and "I Want You to Die."

The repress of this masterpiece will see the light on September 11th via Heavy Psych Sounds.

Light the Dankness is the latest Belzebong album, released in 2018. We are very stoked to present you the repress of this amazing record with brand new coloured vinyls !!!

The release, which is vocalized only with periodic samples, is nonetheless able to convey its sensibilities not only through its titles, but through the bare riffs and grooves themselves.
“Pot Fiend” rounds out side A with nine and a half minutes of filthy swing, pitting slow-motion shuffle and massive riffing against each other and seeing who wins en route to its final crash and fading feedback, and another sample begins “Doperganger” on side B. The second half of Light the Dankness is longer than the first, with “Doperganger” at 7:50 and “Roached Earth” at 12 minutes flat, but the method is largely the same: Riff unto oblivion. “Doperganger” picks up the tempo somewhat from “Pot Fiend” in a kind of winding central progression born of a dirtied-up Sleep influence, but they tool around with it effectively throughout and seem to explore the reaches where the song might go, a solo arriving after five minutes in just as the song seems to start tearing itself apart. A longer sample emerges as they pull it back together and trash their way into a stretch of silence preceding “Roached Earth.” (The Obelisk)
